Luciana Paluzzi
The actress Luciana Paluzzi was one of numerous sexy Italian brunettes groomed for international stardom in the wake of Gina's Lollobrigida. After making appearances on both coasts of the Atlantic throughout the 1950s for films such as Three Coins in the Fountain, (1954), and Sea Fury, (1958), Luciana Paluzzi had a shot at American TV fame in the part of Simone Genet in the spy weekly Five Fingers in 1959. She met with the Bond producers and was a candidate for the lead girl Domino Derval's role in Thunderball. When the role ended up going to the former Miss France, Claudine Auger who was the director, Terence Young offered her the character of the villainess Fiona Volpe - one of the few women on this world who can resist the enticement of Mr. Bond; perhaps as the punishment, Fiona is killed on the dance floor by her colleagues, after which James deposits her body at an adjacent table, and then asks "Do you mind if my colleague sits on this one? "She's deceased." Luciana Paluzzi was able to keep up her European career throughout the 1970s through the blockbuster. Films like Captain Nemo & The Underwater City (in 1969), The Six Million Dollar Man (in 1973) and The Klansman(in 1974) as well as The Greek Tycoon were all released during that decade.
