Ricci was the youngest of four siblings born in the home of Sarah Murdoch and Ralph Ricci in Santa Monica, California. The mother of the family was a Ford Agency actress in the 1960s, later became a real estate agent. The father of her was an attorney, a drug counselor, a natural scream therapist as well as fitness instructor. Ricci said she believed that her Italian heritage is a direct consequence of her surname that she has. Two Italians got married to an Irish woman about five or six generations before. The couple had four sons. Children were born and many Irish wives wed. Ricci's family moved out of Italy and relocated to Montclair, New Jersey. Ricci enrolled at Montclair High School.
